Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (CAMP-25) Refine link structure

    [ http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/CAMP-25?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=32055#action_32055 ]

Gilbert Pilz commented on CAMP-25:
----------------------------------

Links represent relationships between resources. I don't see how you could interpret them as being anything like methods in an object-model.

RE: creating new resources. To instantiate an Assembly from an AssemblyTemplate, you POST to the AssemblyTemplate. In the process of creating the Assembly, the "applicationComponents" array (which is any array of Links) is populated with the URIs of the Application Components that were created by platform implementation. Since the Assembly represents a running instance of an application, there is nothing you can do with these Links except de-reference them (i.e. you can't delete them, etc.)

With regards to understanding whether an attribute is a Link or not, for attributes defined by the CAMP spec, the CAMP spec tells you this. For extension attributes and attributes of extension resources, I would hope that the metadata that describes such extensions would indicate that the type of the attribute is 'Link'.

> The current standard defines links as a structure that "must contain 'href' and may contain more" such as 'rel', 'type', etc. Depending on the level of HATEOAS support we envision, we may need a more extensive structure that supports "write" operations like POST or PUT and on-the-fly URL construction as in the proposal below.
