Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (CAMP-10) API+Model Extensions

    [ http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/CAMP-10?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=32154#action_32154 ]

Alex Heneveld commented on CAMP-10:
-----------------------------------

At the Jan 2013 F2F there is some discussion about what is meant by "extension" and in particular whether some could be "mandatory".

1) One very common anticipated extension is in the realm of the "library" of items supported -- i.e. the strings used to identify and refer to platform component templates, requirements, etc.

Other areas of extensions may also be wanted, however. For example:

2) To permit additional POST endpoints or query parameters.

3) In the PDP.

===

I suggest we call (1) "catalog extension", (2) "API extension", and (3) "PDP extension".

> There appears to be no tangible model offered for vendor extensions to data models, capabilities, requirements, or components. This is extremely important for a specification of this nature that will be implemented very differently by every service provider who adopts it.
> I have attached the presentation we made to the Openstack community two years ago with the rationale for introducing an extensibility model into the Openstack API's, which was ultimately accepted and implemented. We believe this is is a keystone concept that enables Openstack to be successful. I believe that the PaaS Management Standard should have the equivalent.
