Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (CAMP-85) Normative Reference problems found in PR

    [ http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/CAMP-85?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=34569#action_34569 ]

Gilbert Pilz commented on CAMP-85:
----------------------------------

Patrick Durusau submitted the following on his previous comment (https://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/camp-comment/201309/msg00049.html):

My mistake in not noticing that RFC4346 has been obsoleted by RFC5246
(also cited by the specification).

At 6.1 Transfer Protocol, use of this obsolete RFC is mandated:

*****
TLS 1.1 [RFC4346] SHALL be implemented by the Provider. [PR-41]
*****

I understand the desire to accommodate legacy applications but it has
been seven (7) years since RFC4346, or twenty-eight years in Internet
time.

At some point, standards and implementers have to move on.

I don't suppose it is mandatory but I would avoid relying on obsoleted
RFCs like I would avoid supporting 2400 baud modems. ;-)
