You are right, he did say that: "Where intensity has a value from 0 to
1 and the colors range from 0 to 0xffff."

But he also said: "If we are going the other way [meaning HLS] how do
you make red more intense, make it black?"

And to me, that last comment meant going above 1.  Any way, let's talk
and about this during the telecon.  I think we're close to a decision.
