Subject: cgm to wmf dilemma

Now I've got a dilemma. All of the illustrations for the ATA graphic style guide are now cgm files compliant with the guidelines in the style guide. That means they are V3 files and use elements such as Line and Edge Definition and Hatch Definition, and one that has embedded png images.

Unfortunately, the ATA spcification viewer (Folio) doesn't have a particularly good CGM interpreter. For the last several years I've been using one of our vendor tools to convert to wmf for publications. I knew this year I couldn't use that tool because support for the required V3 elements wasn't there. In investigating the other converter tools, I discovered only one that had the V3 support required, but there seems to be a problem with the wmf being created. While the wmf appears to display correctly in the Office products, other products (including the Folio wmf filter and other of our vendor products) cannot handle it. There appears to be some interoperability problem with wmf here.

I may be reduced to publishing the style guide using tiff or png files this year....Any thoughts?

thx...dave
