How about a common term that we can define and propagate in all of those places (four of 'em, at least): picking region effective region interaction region effective interaction region mouse region pointer region [W3C "Events" generalizes mouse to pointer] effective pointer/mouse region other? "picking region" is currently used 3.2.1.1, but isn't the most suggestive term, when applied to screentip (mouseover) and the more generalized events stuff in Ch.5 -Lofton
