Subject: ATA e-Business Program update

To:  ATA Graphics Working Group,

As you know, ATA has been working to reorganize our e-Business program to be more efficient, project-oriented, and value driven.  A new organizational structure has been established, and has just been officially announced in the following email from the program’s Senior Managing Director, Brad Ballance.  However, I wanted to follow up with you to address the impact on GWG specifically.

The new organization establishes several bodies to manage functionally specific, as well as cross-functional aspects of the ATA e-Business specifications.  A new joint e-Business Steering Group (ESG) oversees these groups.  You can see the organizational structure on the ATA e-Business web site at http://www.ataebiz.org/organization.

Functional Interest Groups (FIGs) are broad-based communities of interest that are centered around a particular business area and are responsible for specific sections of the specifications.   Using the web collaboration tools available on www.ataebiz.org, FIGs will exchange ideas, issues, challenges, and develop consensus on the industry standards pertaining to their subject areas.

Integration Working Groups (IWGs) are teams of technical experts that provide the technical foundation and best practices that are applied across all functional areas and specifications.   IWGs will serve as a resource to the Functional Interest Groups, other Integration Working Groups, and Project Teams as needed.

Project Teams (PTs) are temporary teams established by the ESG under the oversight of a FIG to work on specific, well-defined projects.  PTs will often consist of both subject matter experts from one or more FIGs and technical experts from one or more IWGs.  PTs will meet as needed to execute their project plans and develop the project deliverables.

Under this plan, the Graphics Working Group (GWG) will be one of the IWGs and will now be called the Graphics Technology Working Group (GTWG).  As described above the GTWG will act as an online discussion community for airline industry digital graphics issues, will serve as a resource to other FIGs and IWGs on digital graphics, and will also have direct responsibility for the Graphics portions of iSpec 2200.  Any specific standards development work will be managed as projects and Project Teams will be formed under the GTWG or an appropriate Functional Interest Group to do the work.  Any and all GTWG members are welcome to participate on any future Project Teams.

You can join the GTWG on the new ATA e-Business web site.  If you have not already registered on www.ataebiz.org, you can do so by clicking the “Register Here” link. Once logged on, you can join the GTWG by clicking “All Groups”, “Graphics Technology Working Group”, and “Join Group”.

The email address for the GTWG is gtwg@ataebiz.org.  Any member of the ATA e-Business program can use this email address to send messages to the entire GTWG membership.

Please note that group mailing lists are to be used solely to conduct the business of the group and are not to be used for commercial solicitations nor other unauthorized uses.

Under the new structure, the ATA e-Business Steering Group will oversee all working group and project team activities to ensure that our overall objectives are met.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,
Paul

To:  ATA e-Business Community

On June 28, 2005 the ATA e-Business Steering Group (ESG) established a new organizational structure for the maintenance and development of ATA e-business standards (see http://www.ataebiz.org/organization). The purpose is to establish a uniform framework for all standards development and to provide a higher level of structure and order for achieving the industry vision/mission for an integrated data environment. One of the main objectives of the reorganization is to establish virtual interest groups and working groups that will maximize "on-line" discussions and collaboration. This of course will not preclude the creation of project teams that will meet as needed to achieve shorter term deliverables with clear business objectives. As you will see from the linked diagram, current e-business activities have been mapped to help describe where certain business and technical issues are addressed within the new structure.

Over the coming weeks, the e-Business Steering Group will finalize the operational guidelines and processes that will be used for future standards development. However, at this time we invite you to register/log-in at http://www.ataebiz.org and join the interest group(s) and/or working group(s) of your choice. This new service, ATAeBiz.org, provides a suite of Internet-based tools and services to facilitate the working groups, including group mailing lists, online mail archives, document archives, consensus balloting, event calendars, action items, and more. To join a group, go to "Participant Area", select "All Groups," select the group you wish to join, then click "Join Group."  All groups are open for you to join with the exception of the e-Business Advisory Committee (EAC) and e-Business Steering Group (ESG). You can remove yourself from a group just as easily. There is no cost to participate.

It is our goal to transition to the new structure swiftly and smoothly without delaying any existing projects or change requests. We appreciate your patience and welcome your ideas to better achieve that goal. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me or anyone else from the ATA staff.

Thank you for your ongoing support of the ATA e-Business Program.
