Subject: Re: [chairs] Individual members representation?I'm going to reply to this original post rather than assess the various replies so far because I don't have a lot to say on thos particular topic.I don't think indies, which I happen to be, need a separate BoD member though it should be encouraged that one be elected. We might consider asking for or organizing a group or a mailing list of our own, as public as all the rest of the TCs, members sections and Focus Areas. I haven't made up my own mind about that since adding yet another group to my own list is rather unworkable, though monitoring such a group and posting to a list would be doable. However, I do think that the independents should vote on specifications either through an elected representative who casts the vote for the independents on the basis of a separate ballot. That one vote would count as much as any member company vote.At least that's my thinking on it. However, to be honest I do not feel strongly enough about it to take time away from the work I am already doing.Ciao,RexAt 11:17 AM -0500 11/29/03, David RR Webber wrote:As we are approaching year end some retrospective thoughts andlooks ahead occur.Would it make sense to add a Board member who represents allthe individual members?Clearly there are large numbers now contributing to every OASISteam. But only corporate members get to vote and nominateboard members.Do we need balance, and would input from individual members help?Would this help toward working with groups such as ISO in thefuture? Some ground rules would be needed - and also OASIS would needto cover expenses for the person - as obviously they do not havea corporate sponsor. If the person subsequently joined a corporationwould this automatically trigger a new appointment - or could itbe discretionary? We could certainly also have a meeting room and feedback areafor individual members via Kavi as another resource.Personally as an individual member I would definately value reportsback from the board from an independent member there.OK - so I've taken the lid off a large can of worms here, but thiswas an itch so I thought I'd better scratch it!What are the pro's and con's? Is this workable?DW. --Rex Brooks
