Subject: Fw: Legal Alert: Internet Access Now Available To Pending Patent Application Files
With the new IPR changes approaching - this does indeed signal new changes generally. I also wonder here if OASIS itself may take advantage of the PTO openness to regularly scan such pending applications for possible conflicts with public standards and specifications? Some vendors out there are staggeringly ignorant of existing IP. I just sat through a demo today where a vendor claimed they had invented a notion that has been in an OASIS standard for 5 years now. At least they had had the good sense to not try and patent it. Oh well! DW =========================================== Date: 8/4/2004 3:01 PM RE: Legal Alert: Internet Access Now Available To Pending Patent Application Files The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has just made available on the Internet all documents in the files of pending published U.S. patent applications. This changes the field of play. It is now generally possible to learn more about what a competitor is trying to patent and is succeeding in patenting -- and to learn it significantly sooner.
