Subject: RE: [chairs] TC attendance rules

I have to agree with Howard WRT approved absenses. Often times someone, who is key to the TC project, will be pulled away to work on some critical problem in their business (its the key people who do most of the work inside the TC AND their respective companies). If a key person is pulled off and let's the TC Chair know that they will be tied up for three weeks I don't see any reason why the TC Chair shouldn't be able to 'stop the clock' for that person and restart it when the stated absence has ended.

The purpose of the attendance restriction is to prevent those who only show up for votes important to themselves. I don't think this type of service to people who genuinely contribute to the TC harms the TC or OASIS in any way.

RE: [chairs] TC attendance rules

It is inevitable that some individuals may miss a couple of meetings in
a row due to unavoidable conflicts.

It should be up to the TC how to manage this, and in other organisations
the concept of an "approved absence" is used, where the individual
notifies the committee of the absence in advance, and the committee
notes and accepts that absence.

I suggest that the rule should be removal of voting rights after the
second meeting for which the member is neither present, nor an approved
absentee.
