Subject: Re: [chairs] Conference call infrastructure

As someone who has many times also asked for this facility I would like to strongly second this request from Paul. For the WS-SX TC call this week we used freeconference.com and experienced a lot of line noise. We will try again next week but if it is bad we'll be back to looking to our members to fund calls again. W3C provides a bridge. OASIS needs to do the same. This request is not a new one. I for one have been asking for this for more than two years now.

Cheers
Kelvin

Subject
[chairs] Conference call infrastructure

There was a previous suggestion that OASIS might sponsor or provide a
conference call facility for TC working groups.

At that time someone suggested using the freeconference.com facility.

Our TC has been using that for the last two months, but it seems like
we, like the compulsive gambler who has the bad luck to win first time,
were unlucky enough to get a more favourable impression of the facility
than was warranted. In other words - it worked the first time, but has
been pretty useless since. It may be that freeconference works very well
for smaller TCs, but we have an average of 40-50 participants weekly and
this week our call was virtually inaudible due to echo on the line. A
number of participants dialled out and in again in an attempt to fix it
without luck. I use freeconference for smaller calls and it is pretty
good, but it seems like it can't deal with the large numbers we have.

Our TC has therefore asked to raise the issue with OASIS once again -
can OASIS please provide a teleconference infrastructure or sponsorship
which will support this number of callers?

Thanks,
Paul
