We are all aware of the impact that the COVID-19 coronavirus is having on social activities of all kinds, including the work of technical communities like those at OASIS. Attendance at meetings is down, events are being postponed or canceled, and companies are taking steps to support remote work by their employees.
OASIS has supported remote participation and decentralized development since its beginning. That our communities are effective at working via teleconference, email, chats, and issues trackers is a core principleÂthat allows you all to keep making progress.
If you do have any face-to-face meetings planned over the next few months, please make an extra effort to support remote participation by your members. Some may not wish to travel. Some may be prevented from traveling by their organization's policies. And some may be blocked by legal restrictions imposed by governments.
Support for remote participation is required by OASIS rules, but this current situation makes it all the more important that you make use of all the tools at your disposal. Chat rooms and queue management tools like Soaphub or Zoom, screen sharing, and of course the best teleconference phones you can arrange all help ensure participation by those who cannot attend in person.
