It has definitely been the goal of the binding to support generic atom clients as well as APP clients. We've run a myriad of atom clients against the ibm prototype and don't see the issues identified.

The specification, naturally, can be more specific, but I don't know where there are statements in the spec that prohibit atom and app clients working.

It is always good to go through this exercise periodically.

Hi David,

from my understanding, this could be because the Alfresco server doesn't
 require that CMIS extension element to be present, right?
