Subject: RE: [cmis] CMIS Atom WG notes
I’ll just add a few comments on item
#2: What we decided was that since the schema
are non-normative, and thus, the onus is on getting the details of the cmis
extensions to atom adequately described in the prose, that the extra effort
required to craft and maintain a set of xsds that support both the expression
of generic Atom representations and CMIS extensions to Atom was not warranted.
The purpose of the schema on the REST side is for information (I think most of
us will read schema for clarification on some point – even if the schema
is non-normative and therefore _possibly_
incorrect) and because the xsds can also be used with tooling, to do things
like generate helper functions and the like. A more complex xsd can be
crafted (such as what I posted last evening) but it is unclear that the extra
effort brought much to CMIS – so we will only include the generic Atom
xsd. This does not preclude someone from posting more sophisticated
schema files that describe the cmis extensions in more detail but this would
not be included as a part of the spec, rather it could be posted by anyone as a
utility that helps with cmis-based work. BTW, I think that formalizing a way for
Atom extensions to be specified, specing Atom profiles if you will, is a good
potential topic for a possible Atom WG (as being discussed on the Atom mailing
lists). Cornelia Cornelia
