For reference, I've updated the Chemistry AtomPub TCK and the Alfresco AtomPub binding to comply with the CD05 schema with success.
TCK schema validation behaves as before. Although it relies on:
a) the server response to include an xsi:type that refers to "feedType" on cmisra:children elements
b) "feedType" to be defined - the TCK includes atom.xsd from the CD05 zip file for this definition
A missing xsi:type means the element wouldn't be validated as an atom feed, although it would pass validation. I'm not sure how reliant JAXB is on xsi:type for parsing and construction.
The Abdera extension works as before. It does not rely on XSD, only namespaces. As a side note, it would be cleaner for Abdera if the cmisra:children contained an atom feed, rather than be an atom feed, but that's a minor issue.
So, although, the current solution is fragile, it's not a blocker for implementations such as Chemistry and Alfresco which currently use Abdera.
