IBM Content Manager for iSeries models annotation as a dependent object. It must associate with a parent document object.
 
If we hold true to the concept of annotation as a dependent object, it may make sense to use Option 1 - ObjectService extension. To me, annotation is similar to rendition in a sense. We may be able to apply and reuse the current rendition concept to the annotation. Likewise, once we agree on the annotation support and define the extension of object services, we may use the same idea to extend the support of rendition on CMIS.
