One way we could work with repositories that don't support forcing IDs would be to defined a special ID syntax, like "CMISBATCHID:1234" that could be chosen by the client, but then replaced in the server by whatever actual IDs it chooses to use. The mapping from client ID to server ID for that batch could be returned as part of the result.
