Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] (CMIS-781) CMIS Extension: Tags

    [ https://issues.oasis-open.org/browse/CMIS-781?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=46245#comment-46245 ]

Scott Malabarba commented on CMIS-781:
--------------------------------------

Following up on some items we discussed in the last call. We'll continue today.
From the current tag extension proposal:
--------------
Clients can create, delete and query tags and tag typeahead can be supported. Tag cloud representation and other complex use cases are outside the scope of this extension.

We define a tag as having the following characteristics:
- a tag is a simple string that is associated with a document or other object and has no content, metadata or security of its own
- an object can be associated with any number of tags
- the set of tags on a document is represented by a simple multi-value string property
--------------

Tag renaming is an interesting use case. I don't know how common or high priority it is. Some repositories will not be able to implement it efficiently. I would prefer to leave it out of the basic target use cases and leave it for future consideration as an advanced use case (like tag cloud).

It seems like we need another alternate modelling that uses a straightforward dependent object approach like those we have proposed for comments and annotations. We'll discuss this on today's call.
