Do you have a link to the original type text that was removed? I've not been following TAXII as closely as STIX, so am unsure what part we were talking about specifically.

The rational we heard to remove it was that you will "know" which resource you are getting based on the URL endpoint you are talking to, so there is no need to also have a "type" property.
