Rich, many congratulations. I'm sure this is an exciting change for you. I'm happy, delighted, relieved to hear that you will continue your critical role with the cyber-intelligence community!

Best regards,

All,

I am excited to announce that effective Monday, June 5th, I will be joining the MITRE Corporation as their Chief Strategist, Cyber Threat Intelligence. My last day at DHS will be June 2nd. During my time at the Department, I have had the opportunity to lead first a national, and then a global effort to fundamentally improve our collective ability to describe, detect and prevent cyber threats. I am pleased to report that in my new role I will not only be continuing this work but that I will be expanding my efforts in this area. My commitment to the STIX/TAXII community is unchanged and I will continue to serve as the chair of the CTI TC.

As I considered various opportunities over the past few months, I focused on those organizations that would allow me the opportunity to continue to serve the global community as an objective, non-commercial voice. The MITRE Corporation, a not-for-profit entity dedicated to serving the public interest, is just such a place. For nearly sixty years, MITRE has provided cutting-edge technical expertise in support of the public good, currently operating seven Federally-Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs). I am excited about the prospect of continuing my work in an environment that is world-renowned for both its technical depth and commitment to public service.

DHS sponsors work at HSSEDI (the FFRDC that MITRE operates for homeland security R&D) in support of the STIX/TAXII community and the CTI TC and that important work will continue unabated. You will be hearing separately from Preston Werntz, my colleague at DHS who is taking over the oversight of HSSEDI’s work on the TC. STIX/TAXII is the foundation for the US government’s automated cyber threat sharing and many important capabilities depend on these standards.

It has been my honor to serve the community we’ve built over the past few years and I look forward to continuing to work with all of you in my new role.

Warmest regards,

Rich
