Subject: Re: Any Significant Update on the DITAweb Front with DXO Website?

Hi Keith,

Thanks for your email.

We are making the site available for you to start uploading content. As you are aware, we have been recently developing a new framework for developing sites based on DITAweb that DITA.xml.org will take a advantage of. This makes it a lot easier to make changes to the site and to add new features in the future.

Rather than providing you with access to an older version of the site (based on our original prototype) we held off until we were happy that you are working in a site that will form the basis of the final launch site. This also means that as you start to use it you will be able to provide feedback to us about an improvements.

We had provided some initial mockups of the new site UX a couple of weeks ago but have not yet had any feedback on them. As such, we have not yet updated the user interface to reflect the final design.

The sample content provided requires us to apply the metadata into them but is looking good so far. There is one set of content that needs further work, which still needs to be looked at in detail as it is an extract from a larger map.

There are also other features of the site that need to be explored. One example is a glossary - which has been discussed a little in previous meetings.

So, although there has been less activity in the meetings the actual site infrastructure has been radically improved over the last few weeks. This means that we are still hopeful to launch a beta of the site in September, with final launch in October.

In relation to the meetings it’s unfortunate that the last few Mondays have been affected due to public holidays, business trips or annual leave for all concerned. I see no reason to stop them as there will always be a DITAweb representative to discuss progress and as you start using the system we'll no doubt have more to discuss.

Cheers
Mark

Have not heard anything back on this as yet. I think we need to hold off on future DXO meetings until there is movement on the DITAweb implementation.

I will continue to do further conversions and some updating of existing material from the old website, but I feel like I am working blind.

Mark/Richard: can you let us know (even roughly) when to expect a version of the new DXO that will allow us to add/migrate existing content?

Until then, I am not sure there is a point in having weekly DXO meetings, as I personally think we have hit an impasse.

Cheers!

I think Don and I are kind of at an impasse with DXO unless there's anything to report at your end.

We can still convert content, but we don't have any feedback as to whether the work we have done is working as intended...

Let us know. Cheers!
