Subject: Re: [dita-adoption] For those interested in a more detailed listof DITA resources

Hi, Brenda.

I'm glad that you like the list. Unfortunately you can't single source from it; it is built by whatever sort of application that Delicious (a social bookmarking site) uses. I simply created an account, uploaded a bookmarks list from Firefox, and then added tags. It is a public list, and anyone who wants it can export an HTML version that can be used with a browser or imported into a Delicious account.

Your e-mail raised several questions in my mind:

  • Who is the audience for this list of DITA resources? If it's me, a confessed information junkie, the lengthier a list the better. But I imagine others might want a more targeted list, with less overlap and minutia. Anybody have any personas in mind? I think this also is a segue into one of the questions that JoAnn asked us all to think about: "What do we mean by adoption?"
  • There is overlap between the various resources, especially those that I tagged as "portal." They all refer to each other, yet each has its own flavor. Robin Cover's list at http://xml.coverpages.org/dita.html is by far the most extensive -- and hosted by OASIS.

If we create a detailed list of DITA resources, how do we ensure that it is useful and not just a duplication of an existing list? Are we prepared to update it regularly with new resources and maintain it to keep all the links alive?

  • How does such a list of DITA resources overlap with the function and goals of the dita.xml.org focus area? Maybe this work/action item should be part of the responsibilities of the subcommittee that we need to create to deal with dita.xml.org

Hi Kris,

Fantastic list! I Are you thinking you’d like to single source your list for the committee’s list, pick links from it, or link to it? I personally think it’d be terrific to use in entirety, but not sure if that’s being offered.  If you can single source the list in some form into the committee list, that’d be terrific and a superior approach, in my opinion, to the less detailed list.

You can find my list of DITA resources on the Web at http://delicious.com/kriseberlein/DITA

It has approximately 150 bookmarks, which you can further sort by the following categories (and more):

  • Article
  • Blog
  • Information architecture
  • Portal
  • Presentation
  • Tools
