DITA Adoption Technical Committee Meeting Minutes: 8 September 2008

Chaired by Gershon Joseph <gerjosep@cisco.com>
Minutes recorded by Gershon Joseph <gershon@tech-tav.com>

The DITA Adoption Technical Committee met on Monday, 8 September 2008 at 08:00am PT
for 60 minutes.

1. Roll call

    We have quorum.

2. Approve minutes from previous business meeting:

    Accepted by acclamation.

3. Review of dita.xml.org (Kristen Eberlein)
    * Explain its purpose, discuss its content, consider areas of improvements that
have been mentioned in the emails

The following points were made during the Wiki review:

    * Reorganize the home page to provide an introduction to DITA

    * Navigation is not great.

    * Currently thinking of having editorial subcommittee members responsible for
      each page (area).

    * Need to have clear usage instructions so that folks post appropriate content
in the appropriate place on the site.

    * Considering adding a gateway to approve blogs before they are added.

    * Suggestion to change text "Wiki knowledgebase" to "DITA knowledgebase".

    * The currently selected page's tab (in the menu across the top of the page)
should be highlighted when on the page to identify the current location.

    * Home page should be static with an introduction to DITA plus links to the
other pages. Remove the links on right side of page.

    * Question on who should have write access to the site and how it's managed
(only TC members; all registered users; allow guests?)

    * Tagging is confusing.

    * Need both managed content (e.g. what DITA is, DITA-OT documentation) and
have content where users can freely update, add comments, etc.

    * Suggestion to compare to other sites (e.g. DocBook.org and ant.apache.org)
      and implement their good ideas.

4. Introductions from all attendees

The following members introduced themselves: David Hollis, Gershon Joseph,
Briana Wherry, Frank Miller, Jim Earley, Kristen Eberlein, Chona Shumate,
    Deb Bissantz

    CONTINUED

5. Reminders:

    * Add to the SWAT analysis on the Wiki: everyone add to the meaning of DITA
      adoption

    * Consider the formation of informal subcommittees to work on specific tasks.
The only formal SC being formed is the editorial board for dita.xml.org
