Agenda:

Minutes:
Present: David Hollis, Briana Wherry, Gershon Joseph, JoAnn Hackos, Frank Miller, Nancy Harrison, Su-Laine Yeo, Rodolfo Raya, Indi Liepa, Troy Klukewich, Robin Sloan, Sowmya Kannan, Scott Tsao.

Regrets: Kris Eberlein

JoAnn moved to approve the minutes from February 27th. Gershon seconded and none opposed.

JoAnn commented that at the last DITA TC meeting there was an interesting discussion regarding a document introduced by the Help sub-committee. Su-Laine explained that there are concerns regarding vendor neutrality in that document. The scope of product reviews done by OASIS TCs was discussed. A potential approach to follow in place of the Help document would be to provide a set of test documents that DITA users may use to evaluate for themselves the quality of DITA supporting tools.

The official position of this TC will be drafted and discussed in the mailing list. The initial draft to discuss could be: The Adoption TC suggests the Help sub-committee consider establishing a set of sample documents that permit the evaluation of DITA Help technologies and invite the public to submit feedback on test results. We thank the sub-committee for the work theyve done and suggest that their DITA Help Technologies Guide be published under the sponsorship of the individuals and companies that prepared it, rather than under the OASIS umbrella.

Troy commented on his experience with Oracle University, representing DITA Learning and Training. He found it to be an interesting phenomenon. The first problem he had was finding a set of interesting examples to demonstrate the utility of DITA. He had to work in building a set of realistic examples. The Oracle Learning and Training participants collected a set of worst case scenarios that were very difficult to implement in DITA and did nothing to promote DITA with the Oracle group. He would like to see a set of sample documents, as was discussed on Help technology, that could be used as a valid and attractive test case to show how DITA is best used in Learning and Training. He emphasized that this TC should be promoting best practices. The need for special configurations for running the DITA Open Toolkit was considered negative.

Rodolfo mentioned that in latest Multilingual Computing magazine there is an article with negative comments about DITA and localization. Rodolfo will try to share the article if it is possible. The members expressed the need for a document promoting DITA for localization. JoAnn is preparing a slide set on this topic and will share with the committee.

Julio Vazques wrote a book called Practical DITA, now offered for sale. It seems to be interesting reading material.

Call dismissed.
