Subject: Answers to outstanding questions you had for me

Members of the DITA Adoption TC -

I had some outstanding questions on which I owe you answers. Below are
the issues that you raised at the meeting I attended and their
answers. I believe that I also owe you more info on the templates and
I will get back to you with those.

Regarding the answers below, I have taken the list from the email. I
think it is everything but if not, please let me know what other
questions I should address for you. Also, if you want to discuss any
of these further, please let me know and I'll be happy to dial in
again.

- It takes too long time to deliver first release of an article to the
community

Please see the note below about Carol Geyer's developing Marketing
Groups. I think that will help significantly to address this issue
with Committee Notes.

- Minor changes to published articles vs time & hassle to publish them

The Board Process Committee has prepared a modification to the TC
Process document that will allow TCs to move forward to approve CSDs
or CNDs if only non-material changes have been made since their last
public review. This will mean that, once effective, documents with
only minor changes can be approved and published without further
public review. This change should substantially reduce the delays
associated with minor document fixes. These changes will be presented
to the full board at its July Face to Face meeting and I expect them
to be approved.

- Contributors (authors) not recognized

As we discussed, the authors can be listed on the cover pages of your
documents.

- OASIS fee structure prohibits wide community representation on the TC

You would need to discuss this with Scott McGrath. The fee structure
is not something I can address.

- No longer permitted to present webinars

OASIS in fact encourages webinars by TCs. We would be delighted to
have the TC hold more webinars. Dee Schur will be happy to work with
you to set up and run webinars supporting DITA Adoption.

- Cannot present webinars or any other OASIS deliverable in
partnership with another TC

Same answer as above. Please work with Dee (for webinars) or with Jane
Harnad (for events) to set up joint presentations. We are happy to
help you accomplish these. We'd also love to help set up interop
demos. But bottom line, we want to help show off what you have
accomplished and will work with you to promote your work in the ways
you believe will have the most success.

- New type of committee - Adoption Committee

Please talk with Carol Geyer on this. Carol is working on starting
Marketing Groups and would be happy to talk with you about how this
could work and be of use for DITA Adoption. The Marketing Group idea
will focus on providing members with ways to do education, outreach
and adoption-supporting work in support of one or more TCs and their
deliverables.

- You could not establish liaisons with other organizations

You can establish liaisons as a TC. The OASIS Liaison Policy allows
any TC to set up a relationship with another working group or
organization. All that is required is that the selection of the
liaison be communicated to Laurent (an email suffices) and that the
liaison be listed on the TC or MS web page. See Liaisons to a
Technical Committee or Member Section in the Liaison Policy document
(http://www.oasis-open.org/policies-guidelines/liaison#tcliaison) This
policy has been effect since May, 2009.

- You are unable to get DITA documents translated because the
translation has to be done by OASIS members

OASIS has a translation policy document that spells what you need to
do to translate a document. You can find it at
http://www.oasis-open.org/policies-guidelines/translation.

There is nothing in the policy document that restricts translation
activities to OASIS members only and in the Procedure section, it
states:

"You may work alone or together with others in the XML community."

Therefore, so long as you follow the notification and other
requirements outlined in that document, you are free to work with
whoever you want to get DITA documents translated.

Again, please get back to me with any questions or clarifications.
Feel free to invite me to future meetings and involve me in helping
you move forward with zest!

Best regards,

/chet
