Subject: <hazardstatement> and <note>

Hello all,

Dear JoAnn Hackos,

Yesterday I came across the following document:

http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/download.php/38690/DITA1.2FeatureArticle_TaskModel.pdf

This unfortunately does not provide an e-mail address of the author (JoAnn Hackos) so I post my comment here in the hope that the author has subscribed to the list.

While the main topic of the document is the new task model of DITA 1.2 (which sounds great), the document includes markups for several warnings. As far as I (being a technical editor, not a specialist in DITA) understand DITA 1.2, the introductionary warning should be marked up in a different way, to make the best use of DITA 1.2 (and its new elements).

Original:

<prereq> PS units are transported on wooden pallets via forklift truck

to the area where they will be installed.

<note othertype=”warning” type=”other”>Never transport a PS unit

over a long distance or over rough terrain while it is

suspended from slings.</note></prereq>

Expected markup:

<prereq>

<hazardstatement type="warning">

<messagepanel>

<typeofhazard>Danger of crushing.</typeofhazard>

<consequence>The PS may tip over and/or slings and chains may rupture. </consequence>

<howtoavoid>Transport PS units on wooden pallets via forklift truck. Never transport a PS unit over a long distance or over rough terrain while it is suspended from slings.</howtoavoid>

<howtoavoid>Keep hands and feet out from under the PS unit during transport. </howtoavoid>

</messagepanel>

<hazardsymbol href=""rupturingslings.png"/>"

</hazardstatement>

<p>Tools</p>

<ul><li> … (any tools required) </li></ul>

</prereq>

Regards
