Subject: Re: <imagemap> not permitted in <fig> elements

Hi Chris,

You will be able to use image maps inside of figures in DITA 2.0.

The current behavior is a side effect of how DITA domain specialization works. Image maps are specialized from the DITA <fig> element, which means they are allowed anywhere that <fig> itself can go -- and you cannot nest a figure inside of a figure.

In DITA 2.0 the image map definition has changed so that it is based on <div>, which means it will be allowed anywhere that <div> can go, including inside of <fig>.

Thanks,
Robert

Subject: [External] : [dita-comment] <imagemap> not permitted in <fig> elements

Hi OASIS DITA team!

<imagemap> elements are permitted as content in the following elements:

Contained by (base topic): p, note, lq, li, itemgroup, dd, stentry, draft-comment, fn, entry, abstract, body, bodydiv, section, sectiondiv, example

but notably absent, <imagemap> is not permitted in <fig> elements. Is this omission accidental or intentional?

My writers want to create titled flow diagram figures, with <imagemap> links to flow-related topics. For now, they put <imagemap> elements in <p> elements (which are permitted in <fig> elements) but this is pretty kludgy and keeps me up at night if I think about it too much.
