Agenda: See OASIS DITA learning wiki - http://wiki.oasis-open.org/dita/LearningContent/28June2007Agenda 1) Roll call 2) Today's topic - Robin Sloan and learning content samples * Discussion about nested topics and Learning Content type. 3) Status and updates * Action item assignments o Please check and mark items as complete when you finish them http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/portal/my_action_items.php o Plugin now available with DTD and sample content for alternative learning planning topic designs - complex and simple. See http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/dita-learningspec/download.php/24440/learningsc_plugin.zip o Please comments on where to take this design. * Assessment interactions - follow-up discussion about Reuben Tozman's interactions schema in use at edCetra o See http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/dita-learningspec/email/archives/200706/msg00007.html 4) Where we need to go next * Resolve status of the assessment interactions. * Resolve plan for metadata and mapping to IEEE LOM. * Start identifying processing issues and requirements. * Resolve design of Learning Planning type. * * We need samples, samples, and more samples. 5) Check against design plan targets Are we still in scope against these targets? * May, 2007: Review and finalize designs and DTD modules, develop XML Schema modules, use DITA OT to build HTML and PDF outputs, and complete first draft of specification for topic types. Report results to SC at June 7, 2007 meeting. * May, 2007: Develop DTD and XML Schema specialization modules for the learning map type; develop one or more sample maps, and use DITA OT to build to HTML with sample topics developed in Phase 2. Report back to the SC at the June 7, 2007 meeting. * June, 2007: Review, revise, and complete second draft of specification for topic types. Report back to SC at July 5, 2007 meeting. * June, 2007: Complete a first draft and review the specification for a learning map type. Report back to the SC at the July 5, 2007 meeting. 6) Close and adjourn. Minutes: 1) Reuben Tozman announced that he his proposal to speak about DITA learning at DevLearn 2007 was accepted. Let Reuben know if you have interest in co-presenting with him. DevLearn is held November 5-8 in San Jose, California. 2) Demo and discussion with Robin Sloan, Jeff Silo, and Pushpinder Bhella of PTC about their use of DITA for PTC training and future plans and directions. - PTC works with about 1200 consultants - Provides training content - Focus is still on instructor-led training (ILT) but see key need to move into e-learning and web - Use an integrated design process and propagates from a learning design model - Are right now moving out of using MS Word and Powerpoint and to DITA - For curriculum planning, use a specialized bookmap, with a module element for grouping a set of topics into a learning module. - Use lightly-specialized task and concept topics for learning content, specialized to add an objectives section, with bullet list of one or more objectives, and a duration - Map processing aggregates the objectives and durations for each module group and presents them as the module introduction. So, the module topic typically may just have a title and shortdesc, and then get the objectives and duration from the map roll-up. - They also generate a task analysis and curriculum planning document by processing the map to output top-level prerequisite information and other learning metadata, then a table outlining the learning modules, each learning topic that supports it, and the objectives associated with the learning topics. - They also auto-generate a Summary topic at the end of each module. The Summary repeats the module title and the aggregated list of learning objectives - the same list as shown in the module introduction. - Generally speaking, a DITA task = a learning exercise. - Out of the learning map and topics, they produce these outputs: 1) a Task Analysis and high-level course overview, for review by curriculum designers and SMEs 2) an LLO, for working review 3) Instructor Guide, both internal and external versions 4) Student Guide, both internal and external versions 5) Classroom slide overheads (as HTML), using the PTC Styler. - Instructor-specific content includes notes, results, and check lists. - In summary, they're using DITA now for their internal ILT and Virtual Classroom training materials. - They plan to extend to support for web-based training, including narration, media, quizzes, and LMS support. - They'll target the Saba LMS. - They verbally committed to supporting the DITA learning specification, once it's complete and part of the DITA standard in 2008.
