Agenda: See agenda in our wiki - http://wiki.oasis-open.org/dita/LearningContent/3apr2008Agenda Minutes: DITA Learning SC, 3 April 2008 Attendees: John Hunt Scott Hudson Paul Eisenburg Jeff Deskins Troy Klukewich Reuben Tozman Patrick Quinlan Troy is a new member from Oracle, as an Information Architect. He's worked in XML and technical publications. Looking at using DITA in their training and publications as well. First usage endorsement from Really Strategies! One down, two to go. Who's next? Still need someone to take the FAQ mantle from Wayne Gafford. It just needs to be a basic FAQ describing our specialization that we can point interested folks to. Reuben - best practices for SCORM document. Has been uploaded to the OASIS site. (http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/dita-learningspec/download.php/27812/DITA_SCORM_Best%20Practices.doc) In DITA, you can link from one topic from another. SCORM, on the other hand, recommends against that practice, and that each topic be standalone. The Learning specialization cannot prevent intra-topic linking, but would recommend that any reference to other topics be via a textual description rather than a link. Assessments should also be created separately within the learning assessment topic type. In the Learning Object design, you can create the Overview, Content and Assessment all in one object. In SCORM, this would translate to a single SCO. The SCORM best practice would be to break the Assessment as a separate SCO. Essentially Template 4b would be the most usable SCORM processing model. If you want to do advanced sequencing, you should ensure that each topic type is it's own SCO. In SCORM, you can technically link from one SCO to another (HTML links), but that may make it difficult to bring someone back after they navigate a link. Best practice would be to avoid external links. There is a new set of learning DTDs, XSDs, and samples, available as a DITA Open Toolkit plugin. Please download and try this out! LearningSC plugin is available at: http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/download.php/27813/1apr2008_learningsc_plugin.zip Jeff Deskins volunteers to continue the FAQ work. John provided a walkthrough of the README and the process for using the toolkit and templates. Scott moves to adjourn. Seconded by Jeff. Plan to work on the FAQ as a working session next week!
