including learning content in DITA 1.3 technical content topic types

Hi all,

 

One of the key use cases for teams who want to share content between learning and tech pubs is how to include learning content in standard DITA 1.3 topics. Specifically, here are some of the items folks want to include:

·         Instructor notes

·         Duration/time

·         Resources

 

The current L&T support for these items is bound to the L&T topics and not able to be added to standard DITA topics.  There are also other considerations for the support of these items:

·         Instructor notes

o   There are 2 elements: lcInstruction is specialized from section and lcInstructorNote2 is specialized from note. Neither is available for inclusion in non-learning types

o   One of my clients had a specialization for different types of instructor notes: say, show, and ask. Is this something we should consider, like note types?

·         Duration/time

o   Should this item be content or metadata?

o   Does the current structure provide enough functionality?

·         Resources

o   Specialized from section, so maybe difficult to integrate in non-L&T topics

o   What should our guidance be on how to associate resources to non-L&T topics?

 

Are there other elements that you think might be appropriate to use in non-L&T topics when an organization is sharing these topics with learning organizations?
