Subject: Minutes for the Sept 18m 2017 LwDITA SC Meeting

Here they are:

LwDITA Meeting Minutes for 18 Sep 2017

1 PM ET open

Present: Robert Anderson, Rahel Bailie, Michael Priestley, Kris Eberlein, Carlos Evia, Mark Giffin, Alan Houser, John Hunt, Keith Schengili-Roberts

=Action items=
==Read Committee Note Working Draft #19 and bring feedback (all SC members)==
- still collecting comments, Carlos believes that comments that have come in can be addressed prior to the next meeting

==Create topic about LwDITA specialization in committee note (Evia) done==
- completed

==Improve section about XDITA/HDITA compatibility (Evia) done==
- completed, Carlos' feel is that the description in the draft of the CN is the best that we can do for now.

==Revisit <dlentry> mapping in HDITA (Anderson)==
- what do we do about attributes on dlentry in the HTML case?
- Suggestion from Michael: these could be automatically mapped from the container
- Robert Anderson argued for an "equivalence of meaning, not equivalence of the precise markup"; general consensus on this point
To Do: Robert to send out an email to the list addressing this point.

==Review multimedia elements poorly coded by Evia in DTDs (Anderson)==
- request from Carlos for others to examine and review his DTDs
- Official repo URL for the latest version: https://github.com/oasis-tcs/dita-lwdita
To Do: Kris asked if Robert could look at the DTDs prior to their review by the TC. Robert pledged to review them asap, in order to meet tentative Thursday deadline.

==Report from Michael P and Rob H's webinar (Michael)==
- Michael reported that it was a high-level positioning of LwDITA
- Rob Hanna's agenda was that if you are going to LwDITA, you will still likely want expert help in approaching your content requirements, which Michael believes is a valid point
- ratings for the webinar were mixed, with several 4 and 5 ratings (out of 10)
- the point was made during the webinar that LwDITA will not automatically solve all of your content problems, but it is designed to help those for whom "full" DITA is overkill
- demographics: the majority of those attending were not currently using DITA; half were in technical communications, the remainder were comprised primarily of marketing and sales, then training, etc.
- Michael reported that he had a number of good questions, including some specifically addressing marketing-related issues (which suggests that this was targeted at the right audience)

==Forthcoming title from Routledge/Taylor & Francis (Carlos)==
- Carlos' has a book proposal on how to teach LwDITA
- will be targeted primarily at academia, but also for those who want to learn about LwDITA in general
- deadline is anytime in the 3 months after April 1, 2018

==Discuss proposed Committee Note schedule for TC==
- Carlos believes that he can incorporate the existing changes by this Thursday (Sept 21)
- currently looking at the CN to be completed and out-the-door by December 2017/January 2018
- Kris pointed out that the dates can be shortened
To Do: Carlos to draft an email containing the proposed dates for the CN schedule; Alan Houser to present this to the TC on Tuesday in Carlos' absence

==How to address/respond to companies interested in LwDITA?==
- case in point: Corilla contacted the list, are very interested in LwDITA, especially with the Markdown format.
- Kris: respond that they should consider joining OASIS, then point them to the public versions of the Committee Notes and DTDs, and encourage them to contribute to the public review phase when that happens

==Jarno's observation about value of @format in maps for MDITA and HDITA topics==
- consensus that Jarno's observations are already reflected in the Committee Note

1:58 PM ET close

Cheers!
