Subject: 2012-07-11 teleconference follow-up
SIDSC members;
As you might recall, we'd rescheduled the regular ever-other-week teleconference from 4 July to 11 July due to the US holiday on the 4th. I evidently did a poor job of letting everyone know that the change occurred, as only three of us dialed in. Although
we didn't convene an official meeting (and thus I never hit the "record" button), Cheri Mullins, Tom Cihak and I had an interesting, wide ranging discussion of our respective DITA migration challenges.
The only "official" business that came up was in response to a problem that Cheri hit while attempting to do a deep-dive editorial review of the register specialization specification. Recall that the OASIS folks moved the SVN server a few weeks ago (see https://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/dita-sidsc/email/archives/201206/msg00003.html).
When I sent that message I failed to realize that the old URL was hardcoded into the shared review PDF, and therefore we'd lost the ability to recover comments from the repository. Thus Cheri was unable to see any comments in the PDF.
Luckily, the last time I'd opened the shared review and then closed it, I had answered "yes" when asked if I wanted to save it. I'd always thought that question was a bit odd, as I understood that the Acrobat shared review mechanism didn't actually store
the comments within the PDF. Evidently my understanding was wrong, because my local copy contained all of the comments … YAY! So all I had to do was to then save the PDF as a review
archive to permanently embed the comments within the file and "disconnect" the file from the WebDAV comment repository.
So I've now placed the review archive PDF @
along side the now-deprecated review PDF.
Our next scheduled teleconference is Wednesday, 18 July. I'll look forward to talking with y'all then.
Respectfully,
Bob Beims
