Subject: Re: [dita-sidsc] RE: 2012-10-24 teleconference recording available
Colin,
Thanks so much for sharing this info. As I mentioned on yesterday's call, Freescale is just beginning to plan a "next generation" content creation / management / delivery platform architecture (5 years into any implementation seems to be a good point to
step back and ask "what could we do better?"). So right now we don't have a similar diagram to share.
But I wonder if we might not take a slight twist on the diagram you've shared? In our discussion yesterday we talked a bit about markup and classification standards and how they interrelate. Perhaps the conversation within the context of the SIDSC should
be more focused at that level of the "stack" rather than the specific tool implementations such as shown in your diagram. For example, in the Create column, could we remove the product names and icons and replace them with the names of the standards, file
formats and technologies used in each of those? Then we could show the relationships between those nodes, which will represent the required data flows / transforms that will (potentially) impact the approach taken by the SIDSC.
For example, I've been using this diagram since 2006 to "focus" the vision of the XML-based content flows we're designing at Freescale:
(this particular instantiation is from my presentation to the Best Practices Conference in 2011) Does this sound like a reasonable approach to collaboration on the use of these various standards, and to guide the development of the SIDSC standard?

Please find attached the slide we showed yesterday. It shows our future system architecture for next year. I’ve added notes to explain what is what. It would be interesting other companies also share their plans, we might find common patterns. Best regards, Colin Maudry Product data analyst and DITA specialist NXP Semiconductors From:

On Behalf Of Beims Bob-RWBC70 For those who could not participate in today's teleconference, the recording replay is available @ The primary topic of discussion was one of content lifecycle best practices guided by a proposed high-level system architecture presented by NXP. I strongly recommend that you spend the time to listen through
the session. To everyone, let's make good use of the email list to continue the conversation! Respectfully, Chair, OASIS DITA TC Semiconductor Information Design Subcommittee (SIDSC) Applications Engineer, Staff Principal
