Subject: Re: [dita-translation] Acronym proposal
As requested in today's meeting, I'm sending along the technical comments on this proposal. The sample conref syntax needs to include the topic ID when referencing an element: <acronym conref="acronyms.dita#acronyms/abs"/> The <acronym> element itself probably should not be specialized from <data>, because the <data> element represents metadata, and by default it is not included in the output. A better choice would be <keyword>. However, the keyword element today does not have children of its own, so this would be dependent on another DITA 1.2 requirement for keywords to nest keywords. I would suggest that the proper specialization would be to specialize acronym from <keyword>, expanded from <keyword>, and <short> from <data>. This would mean that the expanded term is a normal phrase, while the short form is metadata that is hidden when processes do not know what to do with it. Processes that are prepared for this element will choose the proper one for display. So, the model would be: <acronym> ==> specialize from keyword <expanded/> ==> specialize from keyword <short/> ==> specialize from data </acronym> Robert D Anderson IBM Authoring Tools Development Chief Architect, DITA Open Toolkit (507) 253-8787, T/L 553-8787 "Rodolfo M.
