Subject: RE: [dita] Contains and Contained by in reference
Joann, First off, thanks for your separate explanation of the contains and contained by sections. Second, regarding a tutorial, I think that would be very helpful. What would be especially helpful would be information in that tutorial (or in a separate tutorial) about how DITA uses the DTD mechanism, both in the standard and for specialization. If you're used to more traditional uses of DTDs, DITA can trip you up. For example, even though I understand how a DTD works, and at a higher level how the DITA DTDs work, the unique way that DITA uses DTDs tripped me up when I was looking at the Contains and Contained by tables. I had in my head the notion that a DTD can't define different content models for the same element, and while this is true, there's no requirement that a standard can't define different content models for the same element in different DTDs, which is exactly what DITA does. Once I understood that, the tables made sense.
