Subject: Re: [dita-users] Processing reltables

Hi, Casey.

We talked about this on the DITA TC call this morning. Here's what came up:

  1. Yes, "a DITA processor should form the union of all relationships defined in all tables."The spec does state "Within a map tree, the effective set of relationship tables is the union of all the relationship tables in all the maps in the map tree." (See 2.1.3.3.1 Links within maps)
  2. In regard to whether duplicate relationships are eliminated -- this really is implementation/processor specific.

We didn't tackle your point about the @type attribute; it was too general of an observation and not specific enough to generate discussion.

Hope that this helps!

Best,

Kris

I was looking for information in the spec as to how a DITA processor should handle reltables and I didn't find much.

Specifically, I want to know if there are any considerations which need to be taken when "merging"/processing reltables from multiple maps.

My assumption is that a DITA processor should form the union of all relationships defined in all tables, and eliminate any duplicate relationships. But at this point that is just an assumption, I was hoping for a more definitive answer.

Also, the @type attribute seems rather arbitrary in how it is used, processed and displayed in output.

Thanks,

Casey
