In case anyone is interested here is the message that I sent out to all of my contacts who had not voted between about 5-6pm yesterday (PST). This is one of the few where I knew the company had a connection to DITA. It has one (obvious) short, extra paragraph. Otherwise the only thing I varied was the salutation.

Subject: Last chance to vote for DITA 1.3

Dear Winston,

Time is running out on the ballot for DITA 1.3!

Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) is already a highly successful schema for structured authoring in XML. DITA was originally developed by IBM primarily for technical documentation, but in the years since its creation as a standard under the OASIS umbrella, its adaptability (the "information typing" part of its name) has made it easy for anyone to adopt and use. Now DITA is widespread in industries as diverse as medical devices, government, semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, software, insurance, telecommunications, healthcare, and human resources.

DITA 1.3 marks the culmination of an effort to "finish" the 1.x version of the specification, rounding out a set of features that complete the original vision. With these additions, DITA is certain to be the go-to standard for structured authoring in XML for years to come.

I know that VMware is already benefiting directly from using DITA for technical documentation.

On behalf of the entire OASIS DITA Technical Committee, we certainly would appreciate your vote by this Thursday (11:59pm UTC, 6:59pm EST, 3:59pm PST):

Hope that gets the competitive juices flowing - bring out the voters!
                 Best regards, Paul
