[No notes taken on the actual presentation; these minutes cover questions and discussion (both during and after)]

Mark G: How widely is this intended to be applied? Is it mainly for manufacturing, or wider than that?
Ulrike: We are trying to be wider than that - for example we have software companies in the working group
We also work wider in the IT industry
We are thinking about domains for different industries
Metadata should be applicable for all branches of industry

Scott: Is the list of information types constrained?
Mark S: No, not currently. It's extensible idea is to provide a basic vocabulary
Ulrike: Currently these are instances of the classes but we will probably change that to subclasses

(While talking about the DITA plugin)
Bob: Attributes also let you do subject schemes to define controlled values
Marion: yes, we use that for validation (for example)

Tom: where is the DITA plugin available?
Ulrike: It will be available separately (github)

Kris: When will the plugin from Parson available? It will be useful for the TC to see that.
Ulrike: We can send it to you but we don't want to put it on github before the standard is released; we need to coordinate with iirds releases. But we can coordinate with empolis to give it to you in advance, probably about November of this year

Ulrike: any thoughts whether this will be useful for the DITA consortium, e.g. for metadata design in DITA?
Eliot: it would be useful to see how you're translating RDF into DITA and make sure you're not running into unnecessary complications. It should be fairly straightforward. I would be happy to help evaluate your approach if you have specific questions.
Kris: I'm also happy to volunteer on that
Bob: Thinking about the navigation component, that seems like it might have potential for coming up with a "non-custom" way to merge docs into collections
Ulrike: yes, it's rather a generic approach
Keith: The idea of having metadata at the subtopic level is something that has come up a couple of times at DITA listening sessions, so that might fill a hole. I'm also intrigued with the link to schema.org, happy to review that aspect of it.
Eliot: Keith, what do people think is not possible with element metadata?
Keith: Helping to discover things such as content within a topic
Eliot: The data element is allowed everywhere
Kris: The data element works, but we have a lot of users who aren't familiar with it. Our coverage in the spec eludes end-users. So both of you have valid points: we have the capability, but end-users don't understand it.
Keith: I'm interested indelving further into what Parson comes up with

Kris: This is very intersting, we may have many more questions when we look at the developer preview and the informatoin in English
Ulrike: The documentation is now a collection of separate articles by people with "different" skills in english (warning!). Take it with a grain of salt ...

Kris: Are there any plans to translate this PDF from the presentation?
Ulrike: Well, no. I know I need to, but need to find the time. Perhaps we could do it the same as last time, Kris?
Kris: If you can send me the PPT I will see how far I can get

Kris: Any final questions?
Keith: Great work!

Kris: Did you consider using schemeref to extend a subject scheme with values from a particular company?
Marion: No, we didn't have time to invest in that

Meeting closed at 8:55am Pacific time
