Subject: Re: [dita-comment] Information about DITA specialization for semiconductor industry

Hi Harini,

From around 2007 thru 2012, there was a Semiconductor Subcommittee of the DITA Technical Committee, called the SIDSC (for Semiconductor Industry Documents SubCommittee).  That SC developed a draft for a semiconductor specialization, which you can find from the web page https://www.oasis-open.org/committees/documents.php?wg_abbrev=dita-sidsc&show_descriptions=yes     Click on the PDF document dated 2012-06-30 to see a description of the domains defined by that draft specialization.

The draft was never formally approved by the TC, so it hasn't been maintained, but the grammar files that were created for it are available; if, after looking at the spec, you think they'd be useful, let me know.  I believe that one company, after going to some trouble to adopt the semiconductor specialization, afterwards decided they would be better off importing data from their chip design database, and using a simpler form of DITA.

I've also consulted with other semiconductor manufacturers, helping them customize DITA for their needs,  who use DITA without using the SIDSC specialization, and they have been able to import data from their design tools in ways that allow them to automatically generate quite complex chip diagrams and meet all their documentation requirements using DITA that way..

If you need more help with this, feel free to contact me.

Regards,
Nancy

Hello DITA committee,

I work for a semiconductor company and we are about to venture into the DITA transformation. I would like to know if there are any known standards or specializations within the semiconductor company for DITA users that we can adhere to make it easier. I would also like to know about the kind of support that is available from the OASIS committee towards any such known specialization.

Any kind of information will be welcome at this point as we would like to gather all the support information before we proceed with any implementation.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
