Subject: Stage 2 Proposal Submission: Add strong and em Elements, Redefine b and i Elements
Based on feedback received from Deb, Nancy and Bob, please find attached the updated Stage 2 proposal for adding the strong and em elements, while redefining the b and i elements.
A copy has also been uploaded to the SVN repository in DITA format.
Other than general discussion/debate relating to the proposal itself, there is still the outstanding issue as to what to call the new domain that strong and em should reside within. Originally it was "semantic descriptors", but it was rightly pointed out that
it was too unwieldy and not specific enough. I think it was Deb who suggested instead to use "emphasis" as the domain name, which is what is used here. Nancy was not keen on this name, especially since one of the two new elements was itself called that. She
asked what it was called in HTML5, and for the record it is "text-level semantics", which also includes "i" and "b" (that we place in the highlighting domain). Any suggestions welcome!
Cheers! -
