Subject: Terminology for DITA TC to use regarding conformance

Conformance clause
"
A statement in the Conformance section of a specification that that defines precisely how an implementation can conform to a specification and references one or more portions of normative content, directly or indirectly, and may refer to other conformance clauses." Guidelines to Writing Conformance Clauses for OASIS Specifications

Conformance section
The topic (or topic collection) that contains conformance clauses. The conformance clauses must be numbered. Note: In DITA 1.3 we hacked this by manually numbering section titles. For DITA 2.0, these should perhaps be separate topics.
DITA 1.3 example: http://docs.oasis-open.org/dita/dita/v1.3/errata02/os/complete/part1-base/conformance/conformance.html#conformance

Conformance target
"An implementation which is the subject of at least one conformance clause." Guidelines to Writing Conformance Clauses for OASIS Specifications
DITA 1.3 examples:
DITA implementations, DITA documents, and DITA processors

Normative statements
Statements that use RFC-2119 terminology.
DITA 1.3 example: "Â A DITA document MUST have as its root element one of the following elements: <map> or a specialization of the <map> element <topic> or a specialization of the <topic> element <dita>, which cannot be specialized, but which allows documents with multiple sibling topics."

Kris
