7. DITA expert panel at DITA NA
https://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/dita/202006/msg00004.html (Stevens, 02 June 2020)
- Dawn; we will do a fully virtual event; from main stage perspective; some 'peanut' speaking, and some expert panels. We want an expert panel on DITA 2.0, but it will be a little bit different from previous conferences. It won't be simply open questioning of a panel, but with a bit more prep work. There will be a panel, with me as moderator, and panelists will each describe 1) what's there, 2) what are you excited about, 3) what should people be prepared for, but also with ability for attendees to ask questions. Also, fyi, we'll be running the event for 16 hrs/day, so that it works for both European and US attendees, so I'd like to do this panel twice, once during convenient European time, once for US time zones.
- Kris; will it be one track the whole time, or multiple tracks?
- Dawn; everyone on the program will pre-record their sessions; the recordings will be done by a professional recording outfit, to get good quality sessions, and recordings will be available from the conference library one month ahead of event. The event tracks tracks aren't to watch preentations; idea is that people will have already watched the sessions before the official session time; that time will be for talking to presenters, to talk about the presentations, answer questions, chat about subject. However, at all times there will be a 'main stage' track, with a couple of things happening. During keynotes, there will be no other sessions going on. We're setting up to have more interactions, rather than just sitting watching presentations.
- Kris; I'm excited about that. I've always previewed slides, but this will be better, to preview actual presentations.
- Dawn; the format is based off a 'confab' I attended run by Kristina Halvorsen; STC also did some good stuff with their recent virtual conference. I wanted to go more on conversations and networking.
- Kris; sounds very good.
- Dawn; so we've renamed the whole thing 'Convex' for 'ex-perience. for next year, we'll be in Phoenix in April in 2021. assuming it can be done.
- Kris; so you're looking for 6 people, for 2 panels. I'll volunteer and think about other folks to be on. we'll want to plan it so we're prepped for things to say.
- Kris; one other question, the live conference was two conferences, is this still the case?
- Dawn; no, this is just one conference.
- Stan; there are a bunch of user groups; can you do a branch off the zoom where user groups could meet? It could be part of the conference.
- Dawn; we'll have planned zoom rooms and slack channels, so people can schedule their own gatherings, also a virtual exhibit hall, also some social events, 'meal breaks' and recipes and shoppping lists, so they can tune into a channel during break and watch someone show how to make that meal and chat. Also 'happy hours' at various times (Europe/US) with mixology lessons.
- Gershon; any vendor demonstations?
- Dawn; yes, we'll have virtual 'test kitchens' that will go on during tracks, and in a virtual exhibit hall, where attendees can schedule private time with indiv vendors.
- Kris; will technical test kitchens be recorded?
- Dawn; yes, all will be recorded.
- Kris; are vendors on board?
- Dawn; yes, our big vendors are all on board; we're meeting tomorrow to roll out plans. We're trying to concentrate on how do we make a good 'new' thing based on current conditions. everyone understands constraints and is willing to go along.
