No, I did not get any warning messages. My run outputs:

Resolved file:///usr/local/docbook/style/xsl/1.29/fo/docbook.xsl as
Making portrait pages on USletter paper (8.5inx11in)

I'm also wondering about the paper size. Where does it come from? How can
I change it to A4?

And I invoked Saxon like this:

saxon table_test.xml $XSL_FO table_test.fo

using a wrapper script:

if [ $# -ne 3 ]; then
        echo "usage: $0 <xml-file> <xsl-file> <output-file>"
        exit 1
java -cp $CLASSPATH $JAVA_PROXY_SETTINGS com.icl.saxon.StyleSheet $1 $2 >

Ok, thanks a lot for that hint. Even though I didn't get the warnings you 
mentioned, I will try that.
