Ok, the bad thing about all this is that formatting tables with XSL (and
XSL-FO) processors leads to results that are a lot worse. Or am I wrong on
this issue? 

With JadeTeX, at least the frame of the table, and separator lines between
table cells are shown (provided that one specified the "rowsep", or
"colsep" attribute, respectively).
