DOCBOOK-APPS: fop on Mac OS X

Does anyone know how to make fop work on Mac OS X. I seem to be having
problems lately, though I swear at one time it worked alright. The
machine I'm testing at the moment has a slightly older version, but
even with the latest version I get errors -- lots of info messages,
warning messages, and always 2 or 3 error messages, and their is no
PDF file generated.
