Subject: DocBook schemas

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1

Is anyone actually using the DocBook schemas for "real work"? If so, are
they doing any customization?

One client of mine has decided that they'd prefer to use schemas over DTDs,
but it doesn't seem possible to customize the DocBook XSDLs. If you
include docbook.xsd, you can't define a different (e.g.) tech.char.class,
as the name conflicts. And importation is defined only for different
namespaces, which a customization isn't.

So it seems that, in order to use non-standard DocBook and XSDL, you must
either modify the DocBook XSDL files directly, or copy large chunks into
your production schema.

I understand that the schemas on SourceForge now are experimental, but I
just want to make sure there isn't something obvious that I'm missing.

Thanks,
Chris
