I was afraid this argument would come up, but this question is actually 
why I wrote that mail in the first place.
There are many different reasons to use docbook for slides, but I don't 
think the clean separation of presentation from content is among them 
(for most of us). Rather, I believe the main argument is that it 
encourages 'code reuse', i.e. it allows me to copy&paste from other 
docbook sources. This is why I suggest that in this context (i.e. a 'DB 
5 slides extension') *some* added presentational markup would be a very 
useful thing to have.
