Hi Laurie,

I think that you probably expected some more optimistic answer. ;-)
Unfortunately this functionality is not just simple fix or few lines of
code which can be finished during coffee break. Many core DocBook
stylesheets developers are pretty busy so such new functionality is
usually added only if they or their customer needs it.

If this grouping by letters for glossary is really important for your
project you can ask on this mailing list or write them directly and ask
what would be price of implementing such feature.
