They did have some concerns and Scott explained our mission. They will discuss with their legal team on how much of their content we can use. Send members link to proposal for the 'topic' element. http://www.mail-archive.com/docbook@lists.oasis-open.org/msg05227.html ** CONTINUED ** Jirka (this is on hold until we get more info from 'Writing Matters'): * Set up name structure and assembly for the third three modules of the 'Writing Matters' site. All: * Continue to identify samples of Elearning content we could use in our development * Review best practices in eLearning structures (see #7 below) See links: http://wiki.oasis-open.org/dita/LearningContent/Structure/LearningObjectsAndDITA http://www.eife-l.org/publications/standards/elearning-standard http://www.webbasedtraining.com/primer_standards.aspx * Summarize some best practices we've already looked at on the wiki 'Best Practices' page. * Post information/link to review the QTI work on the wiki 'Best Practices' page. * Review mailing list messages (see #8 below) NEW: Scott: check with db committee on the linkage element that goes between modules. a transitional element. also need to think about localization issues with this element. don't use a structural element that actually goes between the modules, but make it part of the manifest, specified in the sequencing. 5. Proposed Roadmap a. Review modular DocBook proposals and provide feedback to TC b. Review best practices in eLearning structures that should be considered for DocBook eLearning. c. Identify general eLearning needs not currently met by DocBook d. Identify additional specific domains within the eLearning industry that may need specific modules. e. develop RFEs from identified needs f. develop DocBook v5.0 schema enhancements from RFEs g. submit schema enhancements for approval to DocBook TC 6. Guest report from Brad Felix, Chief Learning Officer, Flat World Knowledge, LLC Flat World sees open content as similar to opensource, and itself as a kind-of "RedHat of textbooks". Their content is modeled in DocBook5 with customization layers. Modular content and customization is important; some Docbook tags are used with a role= attribute to help with learning systems. For example, role='learning objective', role='key take-away', plus using callouts for exercises, video, etc. Glossary terms are problematic, but everything else is straightforward. Assesments, feedback are important elements as well. Scott suggests the Q&A element might be useful. He points out that our proposed schema should be robust enough to support a transform to QTI. Some corresponding questions to ponder: (should we support hints, is it important to specify the question type, how do we show answers or other feedback at appropriate places). Discussion of Bloom's taxonomy, Gagne's instructional events model revealed that they are *currently* not important in practice may be important later; see the DITA experience with Gagne: http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/dita-learningspec/200610/jpg00001.jpg Scott points to the need for a type of glue between modules: paras/sections to go between modules, depending on the first/next modules.Scott will raise the issue with the db committee. Other discussion: For the many companies that have docbook content, our goal is to provide a way for them to repurpose their content for internal and external learning The DocBook Assembly provides a path for modular docbook and thence to SCORM. 7. Review best practices in eLearning structures that should be considered for DocBook eLearning. http://wiki.oasis-open.org/dita/LearningContent/Background 8. Review feedback from mailing list regarding eLearning implementations and needs. [http://markmail.org/message/tssbu3yixz5ujrgc] [http://markmail.org/browse/org.oasis-open.lists.docbook-elearning] 9.
