Right.

It's best to avoid using the words when they aren't meant. I'm just
going to delete the "reasons of style" sentence.

Well. I'm not sure what to do about that. For departed members, it
doesn't seem unreasonable to leave their historical affiliations, but
maybe the thing to do is simply remove them.
